Spring Ledge Farm COVID-19 Update
We have been closely monitoring the evolving situation with COVID-19 and will continue to do so. In the meantime, we still have seeds to sow, food to grow, and spring to look forward to. Our first priority is the safety of our employees and our community. To that end, we have been taking extra precautions. We have rearranged shifts and projects so that fewer people are working at a time and projects are taking place in different areas of the farm. Food safety has always been a top priority for us, and we are redoubling our efforts now. Read about our food safety policies and updates for COVID-19 at springledgefarm.com.
In this time of uncertainty, we need our local farms more than ever. We’re committed to growing and supplying food and plants to our community. Weathering this storm will take some creative thinking and all of us pulling together (while maintaining distance!) to figure out how best to feed our community, grow our gardens, and spread joy through flowers. If you can, please consider purchasing a CSA Share. Participating in a CSA is one of the best ways you can support Spring Ledge so that we can continue to support our community.
Stay safe, stay healthy, and we’ll see you soon!
2020 Spring Ledge
Buying a Farm Share at Spring Ledge is a form of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). CSAs work when a customer pre-purchases shares to help with the farmer’s annual start-up and maintenance costs.
This helps the farmer during the “off season”, when there is essentially no product to sell and little cash flow. The farm uses these Farm Share monies as mini loans. The customer loans us the money, then the farm pays back that money, plus interest, in the form of fresh plants, fresh produce or anything else that the farm sells. Farm Shares purchased by February 28th return 5% interest; by April 15th return 3%.
Since Spring Ledge offers everything from hanging baskets to perennials and arugula to zucchini, we chose a CSA model using credit instead of the weekly pickup of bagged vegetables. It differs from a traditional CSA in that the customer makes the choices about what products they receive, meaning they can come in anytime and buy what they like with the amount of money they invested. All this helps keep dollars in the local economy.
Farm Shares are issued in the form of pre-purchased credit at the farm, in value increments of $100. Farm Shares must be purchased with cash or check. You may purchase as many shares as you wish. You will be able to redeem this credit starting March 30th, 2020. Use it during the entire season for any items available at Spring Ledge Farm. Farm Shares do not expire! Any extra credit remaining at the end of the calendar year is passed through to the next year. Please click here to download an order form.
