All entrants receive a free long-sleeve t-shirt and complimentary apples.
Winner receives $45. gift certificate and high acclaim.
All pies must be delivered to Springledge by 12:30 pm on the day of the contest. Judging by a panel of peers. Judging based on 4 aspects: Appearance (before we cut into the pies, the judges rate them all on aesthetics); Crust (judges are instructed to taste just the crust and rate on flavor, flakiness, melt-in-your-mouth-ness); Innards (judges taste the filling alone and rate on flavor, consistency, and other intangible factors); Overall (judges taste filling and crust together and rate on the symbiosis of the two). Ratings are on a scale from 1-5. Once all the pies have been judged, the results are tallied on the spot through the computer with all four categories receiving even weight in the process (each category counts for 25% of the total). There are no statistical variances involved in the tally, just straight arithmetic. The entry with the highest point total wins. All leftover pie innards and crusts are deemed the property of Spring Ledge and will be doled out to any and all customers, bystanders and freeloaders who happen to be around after the contest.
