Congratulations
to Heidi Moulton for winning Best of Show in the Container Garden
Contest 2005.
Other
winning entries included Reiko Lemelin, Diane Rosewood and Sue Steston.
Each summer for the past
five years we have hosted a container garden contest. The idea is
for the public to display and vote for their favorite container
gardens. The week long judging is slated for the first full week in
August. Anyone and everyone is welcome to submit an
entry. A container garden is any type of potted plant. This
can range from a flower growing in an old shoe to a wheelbarrow stuffed
with zuchinni plants to a genuine Italian terra cotta pot with a rosemary
topiary. Anything goes.
We number the contestants
(the plants, that is...not you) so they are anonymous and we set up the
pots on the benches in front of the farmstand. We water and feed
them all week as the public votes on their favorite containers. The
categories are "Most Unique", "Best Container",
"Best Color Combination" and "Best of Show".
Every contestant receives a
gift certificate for a free fall mum plant and the winners receive gift
certificates, free mums and clay pots of their choice.

Cut Flower Talks:
No
matter when we plant the field cut flowers, we always seem to have a flush
of blooms in mid-July. And every year, we wish more people would
come by just to walk through the cut flower garden while the blooms are so
numerous. This year, we plan on hosting two evenings in the cut
flower garden to showcase the mass of blooms.

The first date is
tentatively scheduled for
Wednesday July 26th, 2006 at 6:15 p.m. The second date is
tentatively scheduled for
Wednesday, August 9th, 2006 again at 6:15 p.m. Both of these very
informal get togethers are open to everyone and they are free.
Flower guy
Greg will show you around the cut flower garden and we can chat about the
233 varieties of cut flowers we grow for cutting. Its a great place
to find new varieties to try in your own garden. You can check out
their plant habit, flower color and height. We will discuss some
tips for long-lasting blooms and everyone can pick a complimentary bouquet
of flowers.

We will provide the plant
listings, refreshments, buckets, scissors and flowers.
