Dear
Fellow Gardener,
Open Fridays 3-6 - March 19th & March
26th.
Opening for the
season on March 31st.
You
know how big, fancy corporations have
retreats, maybe at an outdoor ropes course
in order to build trust,
confidence and teamwork while producing
better communication,
improved productivity
and increased effectiveness?
We thought this sounded like a great idea,
but since we're on a slightly smaller
budget, we had to come up with our own
team-building experience here on the farm.
This was an intensive hour of learning about
each other and how we interact and work
towards common goals. In addition, the
activity proved beneficial as it cleared a
major obstacle in growing the 2010 tomato
crop.
Last Monday, we set out towards the Big
Tomato house for some group Chicken
Wrangling. Our task was to corral,
catch and carry 21 free-range chickens from
their winter home inside the tomato house to
their summer home in the coop. I know
it sounds easy enough, but seriously, have
you ever tried to catch 21 chickens when
they can freely scamper (& fly) around
their 3,800 square foot greenhouse?
Easier said than done.
l to r : Chibi, Chicken 1, Chicken 2
I'm happy to report that all the birds were
safely delivered to their new digs and the
tomato house is roto-tilled and ready for
planting. And our crew has become even
more confident, productive and effective.
If you think your company would benefit from
a little chicken wrangling, give our sales
office a call. We also offer group
weeding, pot
sorting/stacking and barn-mucking.
All at very reasonable rates.

News
The
Big Tomato Greenhouse is almost ready for planting.
Tasha is roto-tilling the soil after adding just the
right amount of organic fertilizer. We take
soil tests every year to determine what is needed
for our crops. The results of the soil tests
dictate which nutrients are lacking and which ones
we have in good supply. We save time, money
and any potential runoff issues by applying only
what is needed by the crop for that season.
Soil tests are a great idea for your home garden as
well, and will provide a baseline on fertility and
pH of the soil for future years.
We'll plant 800 or so plants into the tomato house
next week.
We've also opened up #2, the pansy house, and the
perennial house down back in our growing range.
Next week will be #1 greenhouse which grows Proven
Winner crops, moss hanging baskets and a wide range
of the more unusual varieties.
We're still waiting on the snow to melt...a few
sections of the fields are starting to appear.
Hopefully we'll just have one mud season this year.

Blight information
