 Dear Info,         Freud & friends
Winter Market -
Friday February 12th 3-6pm

Our amaryllis are in full bud, with beautiful blooms just waiting to open.  We started these in the greenhouse last December.  Amaryllis provide a welcome respite of tropical blooms during our cold and white winters.  Amaryllis are native to South Africa and became popular in the early 1800's.  They are a bulb that does not require a cold period to initiate flowering, so they can easily be forced for winter bloom.

      Farm News:
I've noticed the solar intensity increasing over the past few weeks.  Not only are the days longer, but the greenhouse temperatures climb into the 80's during sunny days, while March 2009 - Random kid planting pansiesthermometer outside reads 25F.  In our line of work, that's what we call a benefit.  We're currently experiencing the same amount of daylight as we do in October and we're just 5 weeks away from the Spring Equinox (when daylength reaches exactly 12 hours).  Spring is coming!
We open up the Taj Majal in a few weeks (this will be our 6th year in this "new" greenhouse); we'll be planting geraniums, osteospermum, nemesias and calibrachoas.  This will also give us room to spread out the tomato plants, transplant the pansies and primulas and sow more pea shoots.

We appreciate your patronage.  As always, please let me know of any questions.

Sincerely,

Greg Berger
